Breeder Pages FAQ

Why is X dragon not listed?

We try to add dragons with their images as soon as all the images are available on Dragon Cave.  If you know of a dragon that is missing, please let us know in the Spa Lounge.

What does dam and sire mean?

Dam is the female dragon and sire is the male dragon.

Why do have to categorize my dragons?

When the system adds all of your adult dragons, the breed of each dragon is not known.  The breed of the dragon cannot be retrieved from the Dragon Cave API.  As the rest of the pages requires the breed of the dragon, you must "categorize" your dragons by their breed.  This is a very simple task, and we feel it is easier than the original design where you had to enter all of your dragons manually one at a time.

Why can't I find X user?

Only users that have entered dragons show up in the users list.  Make sure you know their name on Dragon Cave as it uses scroll names.

Why can't I find X dragon under X breed?

The breeds go by the dam's breed.  If the dragon you are looking for is male, it won't show up under its breed.  For those that are only male, like the Yulebucks, they will not show up.  It could also be that the dragon is a hatchling or was released before you added your eggs.  You can no longer manually add dragons.  If it is a hatchling, you can run the add again to add new dragons that are now adults.  If you released the dragon before using these pages, I'm afraid you can't add it.  If you release/kill a dragon after adding your dragons, go into Edit Dragons and edit the dragon to mark him as released/dead.

Why doesn't X breed show up in the list?

Only those dragons that are breedable show up in the list, or the breed hasn't been added yet.

Why does X breeding log show no alt eggs?

Only those dragons that produce alternate dragons will have the alt eggs column filled.  Currently those are Black, Black - Alt, Green, Stone, Vine, Vine - Alt, Water, Skywing, Deep Sea, and Magi.  Some will only show up if an appropriate pair is set.  Like Skywing and Water will show a Bluna egg as an alt.

Why do you list the alt dragons as their own breed?

For the ease of display.

Why does the Vampire Eggs not show up under the biting log?

In the biting log, only whether the bite was successful or not in producing a vampire egg (whether it was repulsed or not) is displayed.  As there is no chance of different eggs, displaying the egg was not necessary.

How can I get the code of a named dragon?

The easiest way to get the code of a named dragon is hover over the dragon's image and look at the bottom left hand corner of the browser window.  It should show you http://dragcave.net/view/CODE where CODE is your dragon's code.  This should work in both Firefox 3.0+ and Internet Explorer.  If this doesn't work, you can right click on the dragon image and click on Copy Link Location, then paste it into a Word Document where you can find the code from the url.

Why can't I list a dragon's lineage?

To keep out of the controversy of breeders "helping" their bred eggs after they are abandoned, we have decided not to allow the option for you to enter a dragon's lineage at all.  However, the dragons on the pairs page are linkable to their view pages on Dragon Cave where the lineage can be seen.  In the future a lineage link may be put on Bred dragons.

Why can't I delete a dragon/breeding/biting?

Deleting out a dragon when it has breeding logs will cause the pairs and breeding logs to break.  If you get rid of a dragon, please change its status to released.  These pages were designed for breeders in mind.  The system will only enter adult dragons.  While the system does add non-breedable dragons, only breedable adults can be used in the rest of the pages.

What does # of dam/sire/alt eggs mean?

It is the number of eggs produced that were of the dam/sire/alt breed.  If both the dam and sire are the same breed, only the dam breed eggs will show in the display.  If the dam and sire are different breeds, both will show.  The number of alt breed does not have an image in the add/edit form, and can be ignored for those dragons that don't produce alts.  It is understood that blacks and vines you won't know of any alts until after the egg hatches.  You can edit the breeding later to add alt eggs if you find that one of the original eggs hatched an alt.

Why can't I see all of my breeding logs for X breed or for all breeds at once?

To keep the pages a decent size for those that breed regularly, it was broken up into dam breed to make it easy to reference later if you are looking for the breedings for a certain female.  It was also limited to display the last 100 breedings for those females in that breed.  If you wish to keep your breeding logs for older than 100 breedings, you can highlight and copy the display and then paste into a Word/Text Document.

Why can't I see X breeding on the spreadsheet?

The spreadsheet only shows the LATEST breeding for each female and male pairing.  However, the pairs page will display a pair that have produced at least 1 egg of any breed over ALL breedings.

What do the colors under the names mean on the spreadsheet?

Currently each breed of dragon gets it own color to go under the name of the dragon.  It is meant to closely represent the color or main color of the dragon image.
